Question: When faced with the decision to travel onto black or white paper from a middle point, will the mealworms show a preference based on colour?

Hypothesis: The mealworms will not show a preference towards the black or white paper, we believe it will be complete coincidence which direction they travel.

Exploration Phase:
In the first trail, Matt placed his worm Andre the Giant and Coco Beware at the center point between a white and black sheet of paper. At first the mealworms showed no real preference towards either the black or white paper. Although no initial preference was shown towards black or white, the mealworms behaviour supported that they did prefer moving on the paper to moving off the paper onto the table. Once they approached the edge of the paper they backed up onto the paper. At one point in time, Andre the Giant walked the line between the two black and white paper.

During the second trial, Kim placed her mealworms, Salt and Peppa at the center point between a white and black sheet of paper. However, unlike trial 1, an additional variable was added. Fruit was added at equal distance points on the two papers in order to add incentive to move away from the center point. At this point, the mealworms moved towards the white paper.

During the third trial, Matt placed his mealworms Andre the Giant and Coco Beware back at the center point between the white and black paper. The fruit was placed at equal distance points like the second trial. During the third trial the mealworms spent the majority of their time on the white paper.

Following the three trials involving colour, our group concluded that we could not make an accurate decision on whether or not mealworms showed preference towards black or white paper because of our limited amount of trails.

Secondly, we agreed that the texture of the paper might have contributed to their preference of the white paper since the white and black paper were not of the same quality.
